On the 19th of February, 2018, Antonio was asleep when the lightening flash woke him up at 11:35 pm. His arm was wrapped around his daughter who was fast asleep between him and his wife. Even in his groggy state he remembered that he'd forgotten to lock the door of the Kabot Manor which overlooked the cliff and the sea. He realized it wasn't the lightening that had awoken him, it had never fazed him even as a child, it was his worry that something may happen to Klaudia because of his mistake which had awoken him. He quickly dressed up, put on his thick coat and his hat and went off toward the manor. As he was about to set off, his wife stirred despite his efforts and walked him to the door handing him his umbrella. Once he'd reached the manor, he quickly made his way toward the back climbing the steep spiral stairs that led to the door overlooking the cliff. The rain and wind was quite strong on this particular night, however Antonio's steps were as sure as ever. He made quick time and reached the door, slamming the heavy teak door shut with all his strength. He turned and heaved a sigh of relief, thanking the gods. He took a second to just stare off into the horizon and catch his breath, only seeing the dark of the night and the deep, stormy sea staring back at him. He turned and began the long climb down. And as he did, the footing that had been so sure not ten minutes ago when he was fulfilling his duty faltered. Antonio slipped and fell toward the frothing sea. Countless thoughts went through his head as he fell toward the water, he thought of José and Akeno, he thought of the town he held so dear, he thought of his wife and his daughter who were fast asleep, and of his beloved sister with whom he'd had so many arguments regardless of their love and finally as his body hit the surface he placed his hand inside his coat where he kept the thing dearest to him. As the water surrounded him, pulling him under, Antonio D'Costa died as he lived, with a smile upon his face and love in his eyes. A man so impervious only the strength of the sea could beat him.
